This Privacy Policy explains what information VelvetSpeak collects, how we use it, and your choices.
How VelvetSpeak Works
VelvetSpeak is a real-time conversation coaching app. When you use the app, your voice is captured by your phone microphone, transcribed to text, and processed by AI to generate suggestions displayed on your smart glasses.
Audio & Voice Data
- Audio is NOT stored. Raw audio is processed in real-time and immediately discarded. We do not save recordings of your conversations.
- Transcripts are NOT stored. The text of what you or others say is never saved to our servers. We only retain a one-way cryptographic hash (fingerprint) for debugging purposesthis cannot be reversed to reveal what was said.
- Voice Lock embeddings (used to identify your voice) are stored locally on your phone, not on our servers.
What We Do Collect
- Anonymous usage metrics: Session duration, latency measurements, token counts, and which features you use (e.g., Quick Wit mode, Deep Mode).
- Settings preferences: Your chosen coaching style, output format, and feature toggles.
- Feedback: If you rate a suggestion (thumbs up/down), we store that rating.
- Account info: Email address if you create an account.
Share for Improvement (Opt-In Only)
If you enable ” Share for Improvement\ in Settings, the text of AI-generated suggestions may be logged to help us improve coaching quality. This is off by default. Transcripts of your conversations are never shared regardless of this setting.
Third-Party Services
VelvetSpeak uses OpenAI for speech-to-text transcription and AI suggestions. When audio is sent for processing, it is transmitted directly to OpenAI under their Privacy Policy. We do not control how OpenAI handles data.
Data Retention
- Usage metrics: Retained for up to 12 months for analytics.
- Feedback: Retained indefinitely to improve the service.
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
Your Rights
You can request access, correction, or deletion of your data by contacting us. You can also disable telemetry in app settings.
