Quick Start

Use VelvetSpeak in a live conversation

You can start with the phone alone. If G1 glasses are connected, the same cue appears on the glasses; if delivery fails, the phone HUD fallback still shows the cue. G2 support is coming soon and should be treated as planned until it is validated in beta.

Open the app and sign in if prompted.Beta and release builds may ask for account access before the live screen is available.
Check G1 status.Use the home G1 card or Settings > Device & Glasses. Look for connected state, left/right side status, and battery.
Choose the conversation setup.Pick a Tone, keep Next Cue for short next-line help, or choose Live Guide when you want guidance that can roll forward.
Tap Prepare when context helps.Add who or what the conversation is about, your goal, an optional pinned note, and cue depth. Start Live also works without preparation.
Tap Start Live. The mic starts only after Start Live. Keep talking naturally; VelvetSpeak listens for useful moments and restarts listening on its own.
Pause or End when you are done.Pause stops active listening temporarily. End Session stops active capture and foreground live behavior.

During A Session

What you see while Live is running

Phone HUD

Fallback

The phone shows the current cue and status. It stays useful even when G1 delivery is unavailable.

G1 Cue Lines

Product HUD

Current product display is Cue Lines: compact one or two-line text meant to be glanceable.

Feedback

Optional

After a cue, tap Useful, Generic, Weird, or Late. Feedback helps tune quality without changing the live flow.

Live controls

  • Start Live: begins explicit live listening.
  • Pause: pauses the live session without leaving the screen.
  • End Session: stops active capture and foreground session behavior.
  • Resend: sends the current cue again when a cue exists.
  • Clear: clears the external HUD cue.

Session behavior

  • Next Cue: short cue for the next useful thing to say. This is the default.
  • Live Guide: guidance that can hold a line or roll forward when that better fits the moment.
  • Adaptive listening: turn timing is automatic, so normal users do not need timing sliders.

Settings Guide

What each setting does

Settings are grouped like the app: Live Setup, Device & Glasses, Voice Lock Beta, Display & Reading, and Privacy & Live Session.

Live Setup

Controls the default conversation behavior before you start a live session.

ToneAuto, Witty, Work, Dating, Social, Interview, Casual. Fresh installs default to Dating while dating-mode tuning is active.
Guidance modeNext Cue for short next-line help, or Live Guide for guidance that can roll forward.
Remote page controlsWhen enabled, G1 remote up moves to the next cue page and down goes back during Live. Off restores normal volume keys.
Cue depthShort is one page. Medium is up to three pages. Deep can use up to 10 pages when the moment deserves it, but stays shorter for simple moments.
Pinned ContextOptional notes you write yourself. VelvetSpeak does not infer pinned notes from transcripts.

Device & Glasses

Use this section to connect G1 glasses, verify both sides, test a cue, and choose the microphone source. G2 support is coming soon; current controls remain G1-focused until the G2 path is validated.

G1 GlassesShows connection state, left/right temple state, and battery. The main button shows Connect, Refresh, Allow Bluetooth, or Checking depending on state.
Test cueSends a short G1 cue when glasses are connected.
Microphone sourcePhone microphone is the default. G1 glasses microphone is available when connected. If glasses are not connected, the app falls back to the phone mic.

Voice Lock Beta

Voice Lock helps VelvetSpeak reduce cues triggered by your own voice. It is a beta conversation filter, not biometric login, not security-grade identity, and not perfect noisy-room isolation.

StatusSet up, Local only, or Enrolled.
Enroll voiceRecords setup samples for the beta filter. Re-enroll replaces the setup.
SwitchVoice Lock cannot turn on until enrollment and server profile readiness are complete.
Filtering strengthDefault is 78%. The slider runs from 56% to 90%, with More cautious, Balanced, and Less cautious labels.
ClearRemoves the local Voice Lock setup from the app.
Important: Voice Lock is there to reduce self-coaching and cue echo. It should not be described as biometric identity or a durable voiceprint.

Display & Reading

Controls how long compact cue text stays visible and how bright the G1 display should be.

HUD DisplayThe current product layout is Cue Lines.
Cue Lines holdDefault is 12 seconds. Quick choices are Brief 4s, Standard 8s, and Longer 12s. Slider range is 3s to 15s.
Auto brightnessWhen on, G1 adjusts brightness automatically.
Manual brightnessDefault is 80%. Slider range is 10% to 100% and applies to both G1 radios.

Privacy & Live Session

Controls foreground listening, Android lock-screen live behavior, battery setup, and local turn-log storage.

Lock-screen live sessionOff by default. On Android, this allows an explicit live session to continue from a private foreground notification.
Notification controlsPause and Stop are available from the Android live-session notification.
Battery optimizationShows Check, Allowed, or Needs setup. Use Allow Background or Open Battery when Android asks for setup.
Save turn logOff by default. When enabled, saves local rows for You said, Partner said, and Velvet showed.

Set The Room

Prepare is optional, but useful

Prepare fields

  • Who or what: the person, meeting, date, or topic.
  • Goal: what you want to accomplish.
  • Session configuration: the tone for this session.
  • Cue depth: Short, Medium, or Deep for this session.
  • Pinned note: one explicit note to keep in mind.

When to use it

Use Prepare for dates, interviews, meetings, or sensitive topics where context matters. Skip it for quick casual conversations. Start Live still works either way.

Troubleshooting

Common fixes

No G1 cue appears

  1. Open Settings > Device & Glasses.
  2. Tap Connect or Refresh.
  3. Confirm both L and R sides show online when possible.
  4. Use Test cue after connection.
  5. Use the phone HUD fallback if G1 delivery is unavailable.

No suggestions appear

  1. Confirm you tapped Start Live.
  2. Check microphone permission and microphone source.
  3. Keep talking naturally through a complete turn.
  4. If Voice Lock Beta is enabled, try disabling it temporarily or re-enrolling if it is holding too many turns.

Cues feel too long

  1. Set Cue depth to Short for one page.
  2. Use Medium for a few choices.
  3. Keep Deep for complex moments where more context helps.
  4. Remember that Cue Lines hold changes read time, not cue depth.

App stops when the screen locks

  1. Open Privacy & Live Session.
  2. Enable Lock-screen live session if you want Android foreground live behavior.
  3. Complete battery optimization setup if Android asks.
  4. End Session when you are done.
