How VelvetSpeak works now.

Set up a conversation, learn the current phone and G2 controls, and make VelvetSpeak your own. This guide follows the held 0.3.3 source build; the latest Even Hub-uploaded client is 0.3.1, so installed screens may lag this guide.

The current app

Three places. One conversation.

The phone navigation is Live, Conversations, and You. Debug stays hidden inside Developer mode; it is not a fourth everyday tab.

  1. 01

    Live

Choose a Lens and an optional Prep, check microphone and service readiness, then start the conversation. Draft can offer a time-limited line automatically; End Session and Go dark stay within reach.

  2. 02

    Conversations

Search saved sessions. Depending on Memory Capture and what the session produced, a conversation can include recap notes, key moments, action items, and—under Full—its transcript.

  3. 03

    You

Review coaching, memories, people, and reply preferences. Preps is a shortcut; Help, Social, Work, Device, Data & privacy, and Account are the settings areas.

01

Prepare

On Live, choose one of the eight built-in Lenses and an optional Prep. Add Quick context for the immediate moment; answers and Drafts may use it, but it does not trigger playbooks.

02

Live

Start the session. With Draft On, Velvet can automatically show one line you could say after the other person finishes; it retires after 12 seconds. Swipe-down answers, Quick Actions cards, and Coach are separate help that you request yourself.

03

Wrap

End Session opens Wrap with the saved facts first and an eligible Recap when available. Choose Keep & close, or Delete & close with confirmation.

Even Realities G2

Four gestures do the work.

Meanings stay consistent: click uses or expands, swipes move, and double-tap goes Back toward Listening. Press-and-hold belongs to the glasses OS, not VelvetSpeak.

Click
Open the Main Menu from Listening. If the answer-ready cue is filled, click serves that ready answer instead.
Swipe up
Open Quick Actions from Listening. Inside a list or card, move to the previous item or page.
Swipe down
Ask for quick help or serve the advertised ready answer. Inside a list or card, move to the next item or page.
Double-tap
Go Back toward Listening. On Listening it stays there; elsewhere it closes or backs out of the current surface. It never exits VelvetSpeak.

Main Menu

Optional Tone, Lens, Prep, Settings, End or Restart, then Go dark. Prep is always available, even when no Prep is saved.

Quick Actions

Lines, Smart Question, Recap, Coach when enabled, Recent, and Show prep when the current Lens has Prep content. Smart Question gives three questions; click one to request its full answer.

Go dark

Blanks the glasses and stops microphone capture and transcription without ending the session. The first supported gesture only wakes that same session.

The current map

One Prep shortcut. Six settings areas.

On the phone, open You. Preps opens the active Prep for the current Lens. Help, Social, Work, Device, Data & privacy, and Account each open their own settings area.

  1. 01

    Preps

Shortcut to choose or edit the active Prep for the current Lens.

  2. 02

    Help

How Velvet works and what to do when something needs attention.

  3. 03

    Social

Shared defaults plus Dating, Rapport, Humor, and Conflict style.

  4. 04

    Work

Shared defaults plus Debate tone. Interview, Sales, and Meeting use the family defaults.

  5. 05

    Device

Language, transcript, Draft, the pre-transcription reminder, sound, and Advanced.

  6. 06

    Data & privacy

Memory Capture, auto-save, meeting notes, session sync, export, wipe, and reset.

  7. 07

    Account

Sign-in code, Beta key, connected devices, and usage or minutes left.

Social and Work defaults

These three choices are shared by a family. Change Social and every Social Lens follows it; change Work and every Work Lens follows it.

Choices

  • MinThe shortest useful suggestion for a quick glance.
  • MediumA speakable answer with enough context for most moments.
  • LongMore detail when the answer genuinely needs it.

Good to know: The phone label is Suggestion Length; the glasses row is Length. Long can still produce a short answer when that is all the moment needs.

Max CardsCaps how many cards one answer may use on the glasses.Phone: You → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → Max cardsStart: 5

Choices

  • 1Keeps each answer to a single card.
  • 3Allows a little more room without a long sequence.
  • 5The balanced ceiling for most conversations.
  • 10Leaves room for the longest supported answers.

Good to know: This is a hard ceiling, not a target. VelvetSpeak stops as soon as the answer is complete and never pads it to fill the allowance.

Choices

  • OffKeeps the Listening screen visually quieter.

Good to know: This is app-global, not per-Lens. It changes display visibility only—it does not stop transcription, cards, alerts, or menus.

Choices

  • OnAutomatically shows one line you could say after each eligible turn from the other person.
  • Questions onlyReturns to question-only help without painting the automatic Draft line.
  • OffTurns automatic Draft lines off.

Good to know: A Draft is automatic and time-limited: its Listening line retires after 12 seconds. It is separate from cards you request with swipe-down or Quick Actions, and from Coach; those wearer-requested tools remain available according to their own controls. Humor still follows the phone Draft choice, but its glasses Settings page omits both Draft and Coach; change either one on the phone for Humor.

Choices

  • OffFresh starts proceed without the optional pre-transcription reminder.
  • OnShows the disclosure line before each fresh Start Live attempt.

Good to know: This wearer-controlled reminder does not replace consent requirements or decide which laws apply. On devices configured for a US region, Device may also show a one-time, dismissible jurisdiction note. That note is copy only, cannot determine anyone's location or which law applies, and is not legal advice.

Memory and privacy

Choose what the app keeps after a session, whether it may make a recap, and whether a summary is saved to VelvetSpeak's servers.

Memory CaptureControls how much useful session material VelvetSpeak keeps for later.Phone: You → Data & privacyStart: First-run chooser: Standard

Applies to
The whole app; applies to future capture

Choices

  • MinimalKeeps session time, duration, and Lens, but no conversation content.
  • StandardKeeps useful summaries, takeaways, facts, and captured items without keeping full transcripts.
  • FullKeeps all available session material, including transcripts, on this device.

Good to know: Standard is preselected in the first-run chooser; it is not a promise that every existing install currently has Standard saved. Changing the choice does not erase older data—use Wipe All for that.

Meeting notes & coachingAllows the finished transcript to be processed for a recap or Coach review.Phone: You → Data & privacyStart: On

Phone: You → Data & privacy
Applies to
The whole app; applies when future sessions end

Choices

  • OnAllows recap and Coach-review processing after a session.
  • OffSkips that end-of-session processing.

Good to know: This does not turn live suggestions off. Session memory sync also requires this setting because its commitments, moments, and lesson come from the recap.

Session memory syncOptionally saves a summary of each new session on VelvetSpeak's servers.Phone: You → Data & privacyStart: Off

Phone: You → Data & privacy
Applies to
What is saved on VelvetSpeak's servers, not what live coaching reads

Choices

  • OffSession summaries stay on this device. Turning sync off requests deletion of the server copy while local sessions remain; an unconfirmed failure is shown and retried.
  • OnSaves recap, outcome, commitments, key moments, the lesson, and captured items for each new session.

Good to know: Meeting notes & coaching must be On. There is no backfill: older sessions are not uploaded. Audio and transcripts are never saved there, but the summary is readable text rather than end-to-end encrypted. During a live session, answers, Drafts, and coaching may use saved people, notes, and the Prep; that context is processed to generate those results, not stored, and Memory Capture controls how much is included. VelvetSpeak keeps the newest 100 synced summaries for at most 12 months. Turning sync off requests deletion; an unconfirmed failure is reported and retried.

Auto-save eligible memoriesChooses whether eligible low-risk memories wait for review or save automatically.Phone: You → Data & privacyStart: Off

Phone: You → Data & privacy
Applies to
Global; the same choice applies throughout the app

Choices

  • OffLeaves eligible memories visible for review so the wearer decides what to save.
  • OnAuto-saves only eligible, low-risk memories based on the wearer's explicit words.

Good to know: Auto-saved items remain visible and reviewable, with one-action undo plus audit/history. Auto-save is not silent or default-on, and it does not infer or save sensitive facts.
